Airport design, planning and development
O’Hare International Airport, in partnership with its design collaborators SOM, Studio ORD and HNTB, has embarked on a transformational terminal development program known as ORDNext, a decade-long effort to reimagine the airport’s future. This presentation will provide an overview of this next major phase of the O’Hare 21 capital development program, highlight key program-wide initiatives and share the latest updates on the first major component of the program: the New Concourse D. Future program initiatives to be addressed include accessible design, climate and security resilience, sustainability, near- and long-term energy transition strategies and socio-economic inclusion.
- What are the major development elements of the O’Hare 21 program and ORDNext and their associated status?
- What are the design initiatives that were implemented, including lessons learned?
- How will the O’Hare 21 program adapt to the future needs of O'Hare and the aviation industry more broadly?
- What progress has been made on construction, and what are the construction delivery methods being implemented for the numerous program elements?
- How is the vision of the Chicago Department of Aviation and SOM driving the program forward?
