Aviation security and facilitation
Hybrid threats to airports are evolving. From activist disruptions in recent years to drone-related air traffic closures, impacting cyberattacks and the looming risk of sabotage, airports are forced to adapt quickly and systematically. This presentation will explore how airports are strengthening resilience across operational, digital, and organizational domains, and how ACI Europe is involved in collective preparedness, cooperation and shared situational awareness. It will also examine how EU institutions and agencies align with the nature of these threats and where improvements may be needed. It will highlight how Europe’s aviation is preparing for an increasingly complex threat environment.
- Coordinated, risk-based action is essential, requiring stronger collaboration between airports, ACI Europe and EU institutions/agencies
- Current EU-level responses show progress, but there are opportunities to better align actions with the dynamic nature of hybrid threats
- Building a proactive, whole-ecosystem approach is key to safeguarding European aviation against increasingly complex disruptions
