Panel discussion: Measuring what matters on mega projects – lessons from SFO
18 Mar 2026
Airport design, planning and development
Innovation was embedded throughout the delivery of SFO’s Harvey Milk Terminal 1, from design through operations. One year after completion, SFO and its project partners reflect on how success was defined, measured and achieved. Through a collaborative process, the team established key performance indicators to track measurable innovations, ranging from non-airline revenue growth and energy reductions, to healthy building features, technology integration and operational efficiency. This session will share performance outcomes, lessons learned and practical strategies for applying data-driven results to future projects, demonstrating how measurement and collaboration can turn ambitious goals into sustained performance improvement.
- How to accomplish high-performance sustainability resilient outcomes with product environmental health declarations resulting in green building certification
- How the team managed innovation and risk while delivering advanced products and systems in industry-leading buildings
- How the team measured its innovations and reduced the terminal building’s energy use intensity
- How the team compared, identified and chose appropriate technology solutions that met SFO’s operations strategy and objectives
- Tips and tools to set your future projects up for success and meaningfully measure outcomes
