Day 1 - Airport cities, regions and connections
As total liberalization of the LAC aviation sector and the consequent growth – expected to be similar to other world regions – approaches, the panel will provide an overview of the situation at some key LAC airports, with examples of the conditions and challenges involved in developing their airport cities. There is enormous potential for investment in cargo facilities, surface access infrastructure, and development of offices and hotels near the airports. Therefore, proper, accurate planning – based on the real situation and what has been learned from previous experiences, mainly in Europe – is key. Some of these airports (and most probably others in the future) are managed by European airport companies such as ADP, Fraport and AENA, with long experience in the development of airport cities and the mutual benefits they offer the airport and the region.
