Operationalizing accessibility: bridging the gap between strategy and frontline teams

18 Mar 2026
Room 10
Day 2 - Barrier-free and inclusive travel
The challenge is in developing a systematic approach toward how accessibility is undertaken on a practical level. To prevent accessibility from falling into a one-and-done approach, there must be a method by which a continuous improvement loop is achieved. This process is twofold. 1) Using plain language guidance to interpret standards, increased awareness of technical standards can be built among frontline teams, including greater awareness of the importance of barrier-free products, facilities and services. 2) Through an accessibility quality assurance program, airports can validate regulatory compliance and shift toward a best-in-class approach to identify and remove barriers to equal access.
  • An increased awareness of the challenges facing airport accessibility today, as it relates to governance and tactical deployment of strategies
  • An understanding of the journey toward prioritizing, developing and implementing practical tools for an accessibility program
  • The ability to recognize the ongoing value of continuous improvement and feedback cycles for barrier identification and removal
