DUS Masterplan 2045 – smart growth in a limited environment
17 Mar 2026
Airport design, planning and development
Düsseldorf Airport (DUS), Germany’s fourth-largest airport by passenger volume, pursues a strategy centered on delivering excellent passenger service, promoting sustainable air travel and strengthening the regional economy as an attractive employer. Guided by its vision of becoming a destination of excellence, the airport launched a comprehensive masterplanning process in early 2024 to define its long-term development strategy through 2045. Considering positive traffic growth, spatial limitations and the ambition to act as a driver of innovation in aviation and the regional economy, the plan identifies needs-based and financially sustainable development measures to ensure DUS’s continued success and competitiveness.
- What are the main short-, mid- and long-term masterplan and terminal development measures until 2045 at DUS?
- What were the main challenges of a masterplan forecasting traffic growth in an extremely dense environment with limited space development potential?
- How did new strategic sustainability airport goals impact the masterplan vision?
