Accessible Aviation Project – Brazil

Barrier-free and inclusive travel
Accessibility in air transportation goes beyond assisting passengers with disabilities or improving airport infrastructure. It results from the integration of operational and management practices by airports and airlines. This study presents the Accessible Aviation Project, promoted by SAC/MPOR and developed by UFSCar, which proposes an evaluation method based on activity theory. The method combines self-assessment by operators and feedback from passengers with disabilities across 92 practices divided into four dimensions: management, communication, mobility and use. The project’s outcomes include an accessibility manual, a web platform and an accessibility seal. Currently, 67 airports in Brazil have been analyzed, representing around 95%.
- Accessibility goes beyond infrastructure
- Understand key barriers limiting air travel access for passengers with disabilities or low mobility
- Present a manual with criteria, guidelines and methods to enhance accessibility in civil aviation
