The ETIAS Central Unit of Frontex plays a key role in ETIAS – the European Travel Information and Authorisation System – that will further strengthen Europe’s internal security. Expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2026, ETIAS will carry pre-travel screening of visa-free travellers to determine whether they pose a security, illegal immigration or public health risk. ETIAS authorization will be verified by air, land and sea carriers prior to the departure to 30 European countries requiring it.
