The Diablo Bolted Splice (DBS) streamlines fabrication and erection by simplifying shop-welding, eliminating field welding and minimizing on-site labor. Each DBS connector features a built-in weld bevel, allowing adjoining tubular members to be square-cut for straightforward shop welding. Precision-located, pre-drilled bolt holes enable fast and reliable field bolting, reducing installation time and mitigating overall project risk. Whether architecturally exposed or concealed with optional thin-gauge cover plates, DBS connectors offer design versatility without compromising constructability.

DBS Connectors are pre-engineered to simplify specification and accelerate design workflows. Connector and bolt pattern capacities are provided in clear, easy-to-use data sheets. Because DBS Connectors form fixed structural splices, combined axial, flexural, shear, and torsional loading must be considered—often a complex task for bolted end-plate connections. CAST CONNEX has done the engineering work upfront, presenting the results in a series of convenient interaction curves for each connector size and bolt type, aligned with AISC, CSA, and Eurocode design standards.
The DBS Family
DBS connectors are available for a range of tubular member sizes—from small to large diameters—providing architects, engineers and fabricators with flexibility across a wide spectrum of structural steel applications. DBS connectors are produced in cast steel grades that are readily weldable to conventional rolled steel materials, ensuring reliable performance and seamless integration with regional standards. For larger diameter members, DBS connectors feature a hollow interior, which can be advantageous for hot-dip galvanizing or for accommodating conduit and other utilities.
