CPK signs contract with Vanderlande for BHS at Poland’s new central airport
CPK signs contract with Vanderlande for BHS at Poland’s new central airport
The signing ceremony took place in Warsaw, with Dr. Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK, and Dariusz Kuś, CPK Management Board Member for Airport Investments, signing on behalf of CPK, and Michael Schneider and Thomas Diesener, respective Global CEO and Global CFO of Vanderlande Logistics, as representatives of the Vanderlande consortium. "The signing of this agreement is a major step forward in the delivery of the CPK programme. The new Polish airport will feature state-of-the-art baggage-handling technologies that meet the highest global standards of safety, reliability and passenger comfort" - said Maciej Lasek, Deputy Minister of Infrastructure and Government Plenipotentiary for CPK. "Transparency and quality drive our procurement strategy, Vanderlande is a globally recognised leader in baggage handling solutions, and their experience will help ensure that the CPK Airport operates efficiently and reliably from day one.” - added Dr. Filip Czernicki, CEO of CPK. The BHS — often called the heart of the terminal — will occupy approximately 80,000 m² and incorporate over 16 km of conveyors. The system is based on ICS (Individual Carrier System) technology, in which each bag is transported in a dedicated carrier (tray). This approach enables full traceability and precise sorting at every stage of handling and supports modular expansion to accommodate future traffic growth. The solution will manage both departure and transfer baggage, support real-time baggage tracking for operators and passengers, and is designed to minimise waiting times and handling errors. "The Baggage Handling System is one of the most technologically advanced and mission-critical components of any major airport. Proven solutions, used at some of the world’s busiest hubs, will help us build a system that matches the scale and ambition of CPK — combining performance, flexibility, and sustainability to meet the expectations of both passengers and airline" - said Dariusz Kuś, CPK Management Board Member for Airport Investments. "We are very proud that CPK decided to place its trust in us for this strategically important project, following a long and intense evaluation process. As part of a consortium that includes Vanderlande Logistics Unipessoal Lda., our combined know-how and advanced technologies will provide the new airport with a sustainable competitive advantage" - added Michael Schneider, Global CEO of Vanderlande Logistics. The signed contract – worth EUR 115 million for the delivery of the Baggage Handling System and PLN 97 million for operations and maintenance, with an additional optional scope of PLN 93 million — establishes a partnership between Centralny Port Komunikacyjny and the consortium Vanderlande Logistics GmbH and Vanderlande Logistics Unipessoal Lda. that will span more than a decade.
